The Staging of a Vignette

My Love is away today to a motorcycle convention with his buddies. And what does mama Songbird do when papa Songbird has flown the coop? Exactly she starts nesting. I was rummaging through cupboards and closets to see what I could come up with to give our radiator shelf a new look.

I found these black candlesticks that I found in the thriftshop years ago and painted black (they were originally a dodgy brown) and started to combine them with some other thrifted white porcelain candlesticks.

I liked the black and white look. So what else do I have? A little crown that is laying outside and starting to rust. Ok, quick fix-up with black spray paint. And while I am at it I spot this iron finial that is not serving any purpose anymore. I think that looks like a crown too, so under the spray paint it went.

This vignette is coming together. But I want a few more candlesticks. Way in the back of my hutch I found two iron candle sticks from Ikea (a long time ago). I haven’t used them for ages because I got tired of the look. Black spray paint to the rescue once more. Me likey!  Black and white vignette4

But it was getting a bit to serious for my taste and the candles looked a bit naked so I added some tags (made from tags that I saved from some America Today purchases).

Ok now I only need a final touch. No vignette is complete without flowers in my opinion. I didn’t find any fresh flowers I liked while grocery shopping the other day, so I went for my backup flowers.

You know about my backup flowers don’t you? I have shown these flowers to you on my blog before. Look here they are in a summer table decoration I showed in July.

You didn’t notice them then did you? Well I don’t blame you. Here they are in full glory.

These are cheapo fake flowers I dipped in plaster. A couple of these come in so handy when you are out of fresh flowers but still want a flowery touch to a vignette.

And this is how I ‘stage’ my little vignettes and spend a day when I have the house to myself. So what do you do when the man in the house is off to do some man-thing? Got your nesting groove on?

  29. Lovely 😉
    groetjes,
    Marianne.

  33. I love, love, love your vignette! and those flowers! wow! plaster as in plaster of paris? hmmm neat!
I'm glad you found inspiration in my fancy chalk holders! (scrabble tile holders) I've used it on a repurposed cabinet door that is now a chalkboard in my kitchen. I also made a miniature eraser out of a scrap piece of wood and felt. (works great) I don't know how I ever got along without a chalkboard in the kitchen!

I am a builder of things, not a decorator, I need to visit more often so I can learn some decorating tips. In fact, I'm going to follow you so maybe I can learn some things!

Yep, that's precisely what I do, and have been doing today in fact. Plaster! I never would have thought to dip in plaster. But what a wonderful idea, Marianne! And I have to say, those tags added just the right touch to your pretty vignette.
