The Secret To Nailing The Coastal Farmhouse Decor Everyone Loves
Ever wondered how to merge the rustic warmth of a farmhouse with the breezy lightness of coastal living? In this post, we’ll uncover the secrets to perfectly blending these two popular interior design styles into beautiful coastal farmhouse decor.
Hello sweet friends, ready for a little beach decorating today? I love decorating in a Coastal Farmhouse Style even though I live nowhere near the sea, nor does my home resemble a real farm in any way. But still the combination of coastal and farmhouse is what makes my heart sing. The light and airy feel combined with cool coastal colors and natural elements is my favorite way of summer decorating!

Loving the Coastal Farmhouse Decor Style
Coastal farmhouse decor is a home decor style that combines the traditional farmhouse style with a coastal-inspired color palette and decor. I love this style because I love the simplicity and charm of farmhouse decor, but I also like to pretend I live by the sea and want to have a coastal vibe in my home.
I guess I am not the only one because with its relaxed and inviting atmosphere, coastal farmhouse decor is becoming increasingly popular (as I learn by looking at Pinterest).
Achieving the coastal farmhouse look is easy. Start by incorporating natural materials such as wood, wicker, and linen into your decor. These materials add warmth and texture to your home and create a cozy, comfortable atmosphere.
Next, choose a color palette that includes shades of blue, green, and white to create a calming, coastal feel. You can also add coastal-inspired decor such as seashells, driftwood, and nautical accents to complete the look.
Want to see this in action?
I created a super quick and easy coastal farmhouse vignette on my coffee table. It includes all the elements described above.

Super Cute 10-minute Seaside Cottage Vignette
I took a whole 10 minutes and pulled together a little summer vignette that elevates my whole room into coastal cottage living room status. It combines farmhouse elements like mason jars and water bottles with beach decor elements like shells, starfish and neutral colors like light aqua and shades of white and grey.

What is Coastal Farmhouse Style?
Coastal Farmhouse Decor is a mix of two different decorating styles: Farmhouse Style that uses old and worn and vintage items with Beach Cottage that brings in the sand, the beach, and the sea-inspired accessories. When you bring together these two different decorating styles, it creates a bright and cozy room that is perfect for summer decor.

I have combined these styles before, and I have shared many of these ideas in my collection of Coastal Decorating Ideas. And this year’s little beachy farmhouse decor idea fits right in with that collection. It was super easy to pull together and so much fun to create.
Key Characteristics of Coastal Farmhouse Style
Coastal farmhouse decor is all about creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere that reflects the beauty of the beach and countryside. Here are some of the key characteristics that define this style:
- Natural materials: Coastal farmhouse decor often features natural materials like reclaimed wood, wicker, and rattan. These materials add warmth and texture to the space, and they also help to create a connection with the outdoors and give a beach feel.
- Soft colors: Typical coastal farmhouse color schemes are soft and muted colors like white, beige, and light blue. Think of the colors of the ocean, beach sand and sea glass, and you’ll have your color palette for your beachy farmhouse all ready.
- Vintage accents: Coastal farmhouse decor often incorporates vintage or antique accents like old mirrors, chandeliers, and picture frames. These pieces add character and charm to the space, and they also create a sense of history and nostalgia.
- Coastal accents: Since this style is inspired by seaside living, it often features beachy elements like rope balls, driftwood wreaths, and shells. These elements add a touch of seaside charm to the space.

Coastal Farmhouse Decor Tips
Choose a color palette that reminds you of the beach
Coastal Farmhouse Decorating starts with choosing the right colors. Think of the colors of the beach. The natural colors of sand and sea, the blues and yellows of beach cabins and parasols, the muted pastel colors of sea shells and ice cream. Choose neutrals for a coastal look.
Choose patterns that have a nautical feel
Beachy stripes, polkadots and color blocks give your home decor accessories a nautical touch that is perfect for a beachy farmhouse theme. For your furnishings use geometric, floral or classical patterns sparingly. Beach cottage decorating is all about easy going and light hearted decor.
Bring in textures
Nature is all about textures and the beach is no exception. Bring in texture by adding accessories made from sisal or jute, add some rustic rope and let the textures of sea shells and coral take center stage. Both coastal decor as well as farmhouse decorating go well with a bit of a rustic touch, so don’t forget about adding in distressed woods.
Choose Coastal Farmhouse Accessories
Shells, sea stars and (faux) coral are perfect coastal accessories. Combine those with vintage elements like to bring in the Farmhouse feel. I choose vintage ball jars and water pitchers in sea colors for my vintage elements, but I have also used vintage grain sacks as table runner for a coastal farmhouse fall vignette. In this vignette the large triffle dish filled with seaside finds is the perfect coastal companion to my vintage blue glass.

Thank you, I love this post, always looking for different ways to bring beachy into my home.
We live fairly close to the Alabama gulf coast, so I’m always looking. I really enjoy opening and reading your ideas.
Hi Sue, Thank you for your love for the post. How wonderful that you live near the coast. I don’t actually, the sea is pretty far away. I pretend to live in a little beach cottage anyway, because I simply love the coastal decorating style. Thanks for again for your comment! It is so nice to hear from you.
Heel mooi. Tot zooms.
Hi! I love these ideas — we are planning for my daughter’s Bat mitzvah with is a combo beach and theater theme — we want to do centerpieces that are like yours but we can’t have candles bc we are putting Playbill type pics sticking out of the sand… so perhaps more like the farmhouse ones — any ideas you have I would love!! Thank you!
Super fun ideas. We just got back from a vacation and I realized how much I love coastal decor. My husband won’t let me do it in the whole house which makes sense because we live in Westlake, OH, but I am definitely going to follow your tips to decorate my office. First things first though, the floor in there is in a bit of a rough shape so I’ll be calling in my hardwood floor resurfacing guys this week. As soon as they’re done though I’m heading straight to the Hobby Lobby to pick out some Farmhouse Coastal decor.
