My Christmas Bedroom: A Little Tree, Vintage Linens, and Lots of Twinkle

My simple Christmas bedroom: a little tree with only lights, vintage linens, my grandfather’s typewriter, and snowflake doilies on the headboard.

By the time Christmas decorating season wraps up around here, I am usually running on fumes. Every surface claimed. Every box emptied. And me, somewhere in the middle of it all, wondering why I thought fifteen projects was a reasonable number.

Whole room view of a simple Christmas bedroom at night, lit by the glow of a small tree with lights only and a string of lights draped over the headboard.

But there is one room I always save for last on purpose. My bedroom.

Some people skip it entirely. I get it. Who sees the bedroom, right? But that’s exactly why I love decorating it. It’s just for me. A quiet little corner of the house where I can slow down at the end of a long December day, with the lights low and everything soft.

And this year I kept my Christmas bedroom about as simple as it gets. A small table, some vintage linens, a few strands of lights, and one little tree that almost didn’t happen at all. It is proof that you don’t need much to make a room feel like the holidays. Just a few things you love, and a little bit of glow.

Come on, let’s take a peek.

And stick around to the end. I’m sharing the one decorating shortcut I almost felt guilty about, until it turned out to be my favorite thing in the whole room.

A Small Table and a Little Christmas Tree

It started with a table. I dragged an old one up from the basement, gave it a good spot on the wall, and covered it with vintage linens. That’s it. No painting, no styling crisis, just soft old fabric over worn old wood.

Vintage linens draped over an old wooden table. On top a small Christmas tree with lights and a vintage typewriter.

Then came the tree.

A small tree on a small table is all a bedroom really needs. It doesn’t take over the room, and at night, with everything else dark, it turns the whole space into something out of a storybook.

Here is my little secret, the one I teased you with. I never finished decorating the tree. I ran out of time and energy, and it ended up with lights only. No ornaments. Nothing. And you know what? I like it better this way. Sometimes almost-done is its own kind of pretty.

A Typewriter with a Story

Next to the tree sits my grandfather’s old typewriter.

An old table dressed with vintage linens. On top a small Christmas tree with lights and a vintage typewriter.

I never met him. I only know him from stories. But he used to work on this very typewriter every day, and now it sits in my bedroom, reminding me of him every single Christmas. That is the thing about decorating with old pieces. They carry people with them. A brand new plastic decoration never does that.

If you have a family piece tucked away somewhere, this is the season to give it a place of honor. Even if it’s just on a bedside table. Especially then.

Snowflakes on the Headboard

The last bit of decorating happened on my repurposed wood headboard. I draped my DIY felt star garland along the top, added a string of lights, and tucked in last year’s sugar-stiffened doilies.

Against the dark wood, those stiff white doilies look like light snowflakes. I keep catching myself staring at them.

That is the whole Christmas bedroom. One old table. Vintage linens. A little tree with nothing but lights. A typewriter that belonged to someone I never met. And snowflake doilies on a headboard.

Restful. Quiet. Exactly what December asked for.

Why The Heck Are You Decorating Your Bedroom for Christmas Questions

Do I really need to decorate my bedroom for Christmas?

You don’t need to, no. But if December wears you out the way it wears me out, a quiet decorated bedroom gives you a place to recover from it all. It’s the one room you decorate purely for yourself.

What if I don’t have room for a tree?

That’s the beauty of the small tree on a table. It barely takes up any space, and at night it does all the work a big tree does.

Can a Christmas bedroom be cozy without being cluttered?

Absolutely, and it should be. Mine is basically five things: a table, linens, a small tree with lights, the typewriter, and the garland on the headboard. A few pieces you love will always beat a room full of stuff.

How About It? Where Do You Stand On The Christmas Bedroom Decorating?

Do you decorate your bedroom for Christmas, or is one tree downstairs plenty for you? And is there a family piece that comes out every December? I would love to hear about it in the comments.

If this gave you a cozy idea or two for your own space, save this post for later. You’ll want it when the boxes come out next year.
