Rustic DIY Candle Jars for a Cozy Christmas Glow
Create your own rustic DIY candle jars this Christmas using upcycled glass jars, fresh greenery, and handmade tags. A simple, cozy Christmas craft idea perfect for natural holiday décor and warm candlelight glow.
It started one chilly afternoon when I couldn’t find the right candles for our Christmas table.
You know that kind of light you want—the soft, flickering kind that makes everything look a little magical (and me a couple of years younger)?
I had plenty of old glass jars in the pantry (because who throws those out?), and a handful of evergreen clippings leftover from making my Christmas floral arrangements.
So I did what any reasonable crafter would do.
I made my own rustic DIY candle jars.
And honestly?
They turned out better than anything I could have bought.

My Homemade Glass Jar Christmas Decor
I’ve always loved that mix of glass jars, candlelight, and a bit of fresh greenery—it’s the easiest way to add warmth to any corner. These little DIY candle jars are a simple Christmas craft you can make in under 15 minutes.
Think rustic charm meets easy holiday sparkle.
Each jar wears a tiny handmade garland—just a thin wire wrapped with sprigs of cedar, pine, or eucalyptus. I tied on a few handmade enamel tags that say joy, hope, peace, and love. You could also use mini bells, wooden beads, or even cinnamon sticks for a natural look.
They’re the kind of glass jar Christmas décor that looks beautiful anywhere: on a windowsill, lined up on your staircase, or grouped together on a tray.

How to make these easy DIY Christmas jars
You’ll need:
– Empty glass jars (jam jars, mason jars, candle jars—whatever you have)
– Thin floral or craft wire
– Fresh greenery (small branches of cedar, pine, or fir)
– Scissors or small clippers
– Embellishments (tags, small ornaments, bells)
– Tealight or votive candles
Step 1: Wrap a length of wire around your jar’s neck and twist to secure.
Step 2: Thread small sprigs of greenery along the wire to make a mini garland.
Step 3: Add your embellishments. I used my own little enamel tags, but you can personalize them however you like.
Step 4: Pop a candle inside and enjoy that cozy glow.
That’s it. No glue. No stress. Just pure handmade charm.
If you want to know how I made the faux enamel tags: I wrote out the steps for how to do that in my post about my DIY Advent table decoration.

Decorating Ideas for DIY Christmas Jars
– Group different sizes together for a rustic centerpiece
– Line them up along a windowsill for twinkling Christmas luminaries
– Tie on name tags and use them as place settings at your holiday table
– Hang them with wire from a branch wreath or chandelier for a soft holiday glow overhead
– Add a touch of snow spray or faux berries for a frosty woodland feel

This DIY mason jar Christmas craft has quickly moved up my list of favorite Christmas crafts I ever did. It was simple, fun and a lovely way to bring a natural, handmade touch to my holiday decorating.
Little decorated jars: simple, recycled and charming. What is there not to love.
And every time I light them, I’m reminded that sometimes the most beautiful Christmas decor starts with what’s already in my cupboard.

After all one can never have enough little candle lights at this time of year.
If you like my little decorated candle jars just as much as I do, then don’t forget to pin this post to your Christmas board on Pinterest.
