They are so cute…
I am in love…

Y’all have to see my latest little Christmas craft project. It is just too cute, and it was so much fun to make. I completely lost myself in making sweet little felt puppet Christmas ornaments, and I just know you will love them too.
The other day, I felt my hands itching for one more little Christmas craft project. But something small and easy that I could do on the couch while watching Christmas movies.
That’s when I remembered the jar of wooden beads tucked away in the craft drawer. I grabbed some scraps of felt. Some pipe cleaners. And before I knew it, I was sitting on my couch making the sweetest little felt puppet Christmas ornaments you can imagine — each one with a tiny smile and a personality all of her own.
I went for a red and white color scheme, because that is what I had on hand, but these can so easily be made in any color that you want and that fits with your Christmas decor.
So grab your felt scraps, your hot cocoa, and a bit of imagination — let’s make a batch together.
(Pin this idea for later — you’ll want to make more than one!)

DIY Felt Puppet Christmas Ornaments — A Cozy Craft for the Season
If you love handmade Christmas decor, these felt puppet Christmas ornaments are a must-try. They’re simple, whimsical, and perfect for adding a cozy, homemade touch to your tree.
Each one feels like a little story — a doll-sized character come to life from your scraps of ribbon, lace, and felt.
Here’s how to make your own.

Supplies You’ll Need
- Large wooden beads (for the heads)
- Permanent markers (for drawing sweet little faces)
- Two pipe cleaners per puppet (for arms and legs)
- Small beads (for hands and feet)
- Felt scraps (for dresses and hats)
- Tiny buttons, lace, and ribbon (for embellishment)
- Bits of wool or yarn (for hair and braids)
- Craft glue or hot glue gun
- Embroidery floss and needle (optional for decorative stitching)
- String or cord (for hanging)

Step-by-Step: How to Make DIY Felt Puppet Ornaments
1. Make the Head
Start with a large wooden bead — this becomes your puppet’s happy little face. Using fine-tipped markers, draw a simple smile, tiny eyes, and maybe rosy cheeks. Keep it cheerful and simple — that’s part of the charm.

2. Build the Body
Take two pipe cleaners and twist them together at the center to form a body shape. Bend two ends into arms and two into legs. Slide small beads onto the ends — instant hands and feet!

3. Dress Your Puppet
Cut a dress shape from felt scraps. Just a simple tunic shape that fits over the pipe cleaner body. Decorate it with embroidery stitches, tiny bits of lace, or miniature buttons. The more you personalize each one, the more personality they take on.

4. Add Hair and Hats
Braid strands of wool or yarn to create hair. Glue the braids to the top of the bead head. Then, from more felt or yarn, make a tiny hat, perhaps a pointed elf cap or a cozy bonnet. A dab of glue keeps it all in place.

5. Add the Finishing Touch
Attach a string or ribbon loop to the top for hanging. And just like that, your little felt Christmas ornament is ready for the tree!
Make Them Unique
When I made mine, I used red and white felt for most — perfect for a traditional Christmas color palette. Then I made two in white and silver, dressing them like tiny angels with delicate lace wings. You could even make a whole family of them: Santas, elves, or angels — each with its own character.
Each one will turn out differently. That’s the best part.

Why You’ll Love This Project
- It’s simple enough for beginners
- Perfect for a holiday craft night or family activity
- Uses up leftover craft supplies
- Makes thoughtful, handmade gifts or tree decorations

Display Ideas
Hang your DIY puppet ornaments on your tree, tuck them into a Christmas wreath, or use them as charming gift toppers. They look adorable tied to wrapped presents or gathered in a bowl as a whimsical table display.
However you use them, these felt ornaments bring that warm, handmade spirit that makes Christmas feel real.

Loving My Little Felt Puppets
Every ornament tells a story.
These little felt puppets remind me that joy doesn’t come from perfection — it comes from creating something with your own hands and heart. So make a few. Name them. Hang them with love. And let your Christmas tree smile right back at you.
