How to Make Christmas Window Drawings – the Super Easy Way
How to make Christmas window drawings even when you cannot draw. Learn how to draw on windows for Christmas with these easy tips. You will love these Christmas window marker ideas, and you’ll see how easy chalk art on your Christmas windows can be.
Do you love white chalk art on windows as much as I do? I love all the creative Christmas windows I see during the Holiday season. I have been wanting to decorate my windows with chalk markers for ages, but my total and complete lack of drawing skills has prevented me from actually trying to make my own Christmas window drawing so far.
Until this year, I had an idea. My hutch in the living room has nine window panes that would be perfect little canvases for some chalk art, and what if I simply let other people do the drawing?
That was a brilliant idea, if I say so myself. Read on to see who ended up decorating my windows with Christmas drawings and what brilliant little trick they came up with to compensate for their lack of drawing skills.

I have lots of Christmas window painting ideas in this post for you.
My hutch has nine windows, and we made a whole lot of Christmas drawings in each one.
Look at how awesome my hutch looks! It looks even better in real life, because photographing see-through windows is really tough.
Won’t your kids or grandkids love to do this?

Today’s episode in DIY Christmas Decorating will help you unleash the kid inside you. Or give your kids (or grandkids)permission to go unleash their wild side inside. Your choice.
What To Use for Making Christmas Drawings
Making Christmas window drawings is fairly simple. It just takes some time to execute. And It only involves one little tool:

Did you know those chalkboard pens work perfectly on glass too? And that you can erase them completely without a trace with just some water?
I did a test run way back in the summer on a mirror. Left it up for months, and it came right off without any effort. So I know these chalk markers are safe to draw with all over your windows.

Every pane of my hutch has been decorated with every possible Christmas text or figure possible. I knew I might be able to pull this off myself. But I figured it would be much more fun if I could ‘discover’ all the decorations over time. So I enlisted some help.
My fully grown niece, nephew, and his girlfriend, were totally up for unleashing the little kid inside and showing off their long-lost Kindergarten skills.
So I provided sweets to go along with the coffee and tea, put on some stimulating music, put a marker in their hands, and let them go to town on my hutch.

It was so fun to see them go at it, all serious. Complaining about their lack of drawing skills.
They were hesitant at first. Coming up with small drawings that were simple and easy.

But soon, they figured out a trick, and their drawings became big, bold, and beautiful:

The easy way to draw on a window is to have an example behind the window you can trace.
Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?
We used a tablet instead of printed images. That way, we could quickly and easily search for new ideas. And we didn’t waste any paper.
Bonus Advantage for using a tablet: you can easily resize the image to make it the perfect size.
To find images for drawing, try searching online for Christmas drawings. We used search terms like Christmas coloring sheets, Christmas pop-art, or black and white Christmas drawings. We found a whole lot of ideas. You could even search for examples of Christmas chalkboard art. Although those are usually very elaborate with lots of text.

The Christmas playlist also provided a whole lot of inspiration.
Traditional Christmas stories were another source of ideas.
As you can see, even the Christmas mouse made an appearance.

I hope these images convey how cute this looks in real life. It really does. Every time I sit down at the table opposite my hutch, I keep looking at it, discovering new bits every time.

My friendly artists even got really artistic when they figured out a neat little trick. Do you see those wise men on their way to the Christmas couple?
When the days get closer to Christmas, so do they…

Perfectly spaced out: if I open the window panes on the left and right, the wise men get closer to their destination. Cool!

How to Remove Christmas Window Drawings
After Christmas, when I had put away all the decorations, I simply washed off all the window drawings with a bit of soapy water and a soft rag.
Chalkboard pens don’t leave permanent marks, and it all came off in minutes. No heavy scrubbing necessary.

Christmas window drawings on my hutch…
Of course, this would also look really cute on a door or real window so that they are visible from outside. As a variation, one could do only text, or only stars, or only hearts, or only snowflakes, or a big Christmas tree…
The options are endless, and I bet they all would look really good.

I am loving my hutch, and knowing that those special helpers created this for me makes it extra sweet.

I hope you enjoyed my Christmas hutch too. (In case you are wondering, those Christmas teacup candle holders are also a fun DIY Christmas craft project.

Positively charming! The hutch sort of has the illusion that it’s snowing because of the drawings… I want some of those pens! Such a neat and easy idea!
