One little corner of my home is somewhat finished: my work area, my home office so to speak. In my home I now have a dedicated room for serious work. I need it since changes in my mortgage-paying-job make it that I work from home on a regular basis. I need a place to spread out, focus and dedicate myself to serious business. Maybe that is why I went with this black and white colour scheme. Not a lot of neutrals here, and definitely not a lot of fluffy, girly decorations. This black and white thing is quite a trend over here. People decorate their whole house and garden in a strict black & white scheme, the only color allowed the green of house plants, if that.  I like it when I see it in other homes but I could never live like that myself. But I did enjoy applying it to one specific corner of my home.

Choosing a black and white modern color scheme for my new home office feels perfect! Organized, clean and not too distracting for serious work.

Hihi, it looks so clean and organized in these pictures…

I am sure no one is fooled into thinking it looks like this on a day to day basis. Normally this is covered in books, papers, journals and other parafernalia that come with the job. Oh and bills, there are always bills too.

This house remodeling is taking so long! To think that I have owned the house for a little over a year now, and have lived here since december last year! But then again, life is more than remodeling, and so much has changed. I am still getting used to all the changes, everything still feels very new. But it also feels very good.

Unpainted ceilings, doors and walls and all, but this new house is my home. It suits me like a glove. And with every little corner that I finish it becomes more and more like the vision I had for it in my head.

I like my new life. No correction. I LOVE MY NEW LIFE.

I wouldn’t have believed it if you had told me, but it is true. Having so many changes forced upon me, has only resulted in an enormous amount of possibilities and it has freed up so much energy and power in me that I feel like a changed person. I guess I am a changed person.

A changed person with a black and white home office…..

The desk is an Ikea desk. And all the accessories are from Dutch stores, usually discount stores. I think I didn’t even spent a full $100 dollars on the lamps, rug, accessories together. I have become really good at finding the deals all over the place and bringing them together.
I might not be so good at ignoring deals that I have not found a purpose for……

One little corner down, a gazillion to follow.

I guess this means…..

….. to be continued.

PS HELP HELP !!

I am having trouble with the images in my blog showing up blurry and pixelated. Can’t seem to figure out what I am doing wrong.  So for this post I uploaded super big images. Please let me know if this causes trouble when you view this post. I am working hard to find the best solution.

  1. Wonderful office! I really like the black and white color choice. A bit unusual for you, but I like it!

  2. Enjoy the process of making your house your home. We’ve lived in our house for 2 years now, and most recently we’ve started our process. There is not a “good” time to start. Do what you can when you can do it. We would have loved to have had our house painted before we moved in, but it seems like we had to live in ours awhile to figure out what we wanted for it. We are doing what we can now, and later we will have some more major work done, like the two bathrooms and kitchen. We also want to get rid of the cheap vinyl flooring and have concrete floors. Those will have to wait for awhile longer, but since we need to live in the house until that can be done, we painted and are now decorating.

    1. Wow, seems like you have your work cut out for you! You are so right though, we cannot let our lives be dictated by these kind of projects no matter how big they are. Life needs to be lived and sometimes that means making time for painting and other times it means spending time with loved ones.
      Good luck on your project!

  4. Love the little work corner, and the extra large photos!!!
Always happy to see your posts…

  5. I would love an office like this, it is gorgeous!

    1. Well dear, why don’t you make yourself an office like this then?
No, just kidding. I hope you get to have an office one day, because I am truly happy with my place to work and wish you one too.

  6. I had no trouble viewing your beautiful pictures of your home office. I live in Upstate NY, US.

  7. Hmm I’ve only had clear photos from you. Ever!!! The big pictures did not look too big either. Just perfect!!!! I’m soooo glad that you chose black and white. It is so you in a new style!! I like how you made this space trendy yet functional!!! Oh dear. I’d flunk your trends. BoHo is catching on with some of the 20 somethings and I’ve found I can easily relate a litttle ? Color everywhere. I’m trying so hard. So it’s refreshing to see you succeed in your strict b/w scheme!!!
    PS so happy for you.

    1. Thank you, sweet Gwen.
Yes the strict black and white is quite new and unfamiliar for me too. But I really like it in this particular room. And I love the challenge to stick with it and not let the neutrals slip in again.

  8. Hi Marianne, everything is coming over very clean and no blurriness. Love your new to you home and so happy for you that you are loving your life. Blessings and smiles, Emilou ?
