Bring the charm of the seaside into your home with this coastal centerpiece idea featuring a vintage crate—perfect for beach house decor lovers. Whether you’re updating your summer table or adding a touch of coastal flair year-round, this easy beach themed centerpiece blends nautical vibes with rustic vintage charm.

If you’ve ever found yourself standing in the middle of your summer home, wondering how to add a fresh, seasonal touch without spending days DIY-ing or hundreds of dollars on decor—this one’s for you. Decorating for summer doesn’t have to mean a full house overhaul.

Sometimes, the most charming updates come from the simplest ideas, like this coastal centerpiece I made from a vintage crate and a few easy beach house accessories I already had on hand. It was quick, affordable, and it brings that breezy, coastal cottage feel into my home, even if the nearest shoreline is far away.

Last week, while preparing our home for summer guests, I realized our dining table looked…well, tired. I didn’t have the time or budget for anything elaborate, but I still wanted that classic, light-filled summer look. That’s when I remembered an old wooden crate I’d picked up at a flea market years ago. Within half an hour, I had it filled with sea shells collected from a past vacation, a few recycled glass bottles, DIY faux fishing floats, some wildflowers from the yard, and a string of battery-powered fairy lights. It looked like something straight out of a beachy boutique—and cost almost nothing.

Easy Coastal Centerpiece With a Vintage Crate

If you’re drawn to coastal cottage style—think casual, collected, and a little quirky—this is a perfect starting point. It’s one of those ideas that feels personal, like a collection of small summer memories displayed together. Best of all, you don’t need crafting skills or a designer’s budget to pull it off. Just a few favorite beachy pieces, a little creativity, and a willingness to try something simple and fun.

What I love about this idea is how adaptable it is. You don’t need a beach view to enjoy beach house style. Whether your home is in the city, suburbs, or tucked into the countryside, adding coastal touches like weathered textures, soft lighting, and ocean-inspired elements creates that laid-back, summery mood we all crave. This centerpiece works beautifully on a dining table, coffee table, or even a kitchen island. Plus, it’s easy to swap items in and out—seashells today, driftwood tomorrow, maybe even a starfish or two next week.

I love decorating with wooden crates in all seasons. They are quite easy to find at flea markets or vintage stores. They were a common household item for a long time after all. The ones with compartmental dividers I love most. And when there is some pretty lettering on the outside I tend to fall in love with them. This vintage soda crate looks a bit like a vintage coke crate, but it is in fact a red crate from an old European soda brand. In my opinion, everyone needs a couple of crates in their life and here are some

A simple old wood crate paired with vintage bottles is such a nice display. The old bottles I used in my crate are not the original Royal Crown bottles. They are in fact vintage beer bottles, but that’s okay. It all fits. Using a couple of bottles in your vintage crate decor is quite handy because it is easy to stick some flowers, grasses or feathers in them. That way you can add some height to your display. You can also see how I did this in when I used an old brick makers crate on my window sill decor.

I love it when decorating your home can be as easy as this, and still end up so beautiful. A vintage crate adds instant rustic glam to any little display. It makes it also so much easier to create a cohesive look to your decorating vignette. The crate pulls the different elements together and grounds them.

You can get a similar result by grouping things together on a tray. I love this little coastal centerpiece with wine bottles that I did another year for my summer home decor. An eclectic mix of decorative items becomes a collection when they are grouped together in a purposeful way. Couldn’t be easier!

I love old wooden crate projects like this. Crates like these are not that hard to find at thrift stores or rumble sales and usually not too expensive either. If you can’t find a true vintage crate you can always make any new wine box look like a vintage crate. Wooden crates are great for organizing projects, but I simply love them for decorating. I have several of these crates and I use them all the time in my decorating.

Coastal decorating and adding rustic nautical touches to your decor are the best way to create a beach cottage vibe in your home. Even if the sea is far away (as it is for me). I decorate my home in beach house style your round, but I especially love coastal home decor in summer. This vintage red crate gives me just the right amount of nautical home decor without going all overboard with boat anchors and ropes everywhere.

Looking for that one easy update to give your space a seasonal lift? This centerpiece just might be your new go-to for summer.

I totally understand the need to find ways to keep your blog simply that, YOUR BLOG, and for me to click through and open another window, knowing that by doing this I am giving you a sense of being in charge of what is on your site and what travels somewhere else, is definitely not a big thing.

The post today is wonderful…a good use for all those bottles I just needed to keep and not take to recycling.

Thanks for providing great ideas, wonderful stories and a blog I love to read.

Yeah I am feeling better. Some days more than others, but there is a definite upward trend. And my momma taught me that one can never take too many vitamins 😉

  4. Beautiful uplifting display of christmassy seaside bottles. A great idea for us Aussies heading into summer. Cold christmas always seems so bizarre to me. Its always been, backyard bbq’s, long days at the beach and cold beers from the esky. Sorry to hear you have been unwell and hope your recovery is speedy.

I hadn’t thought of the Christmas thing. To me it was an end of summer vignette, but you are right of course. I guess without knowing I turned out to be really on time with the seasonal decorating 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing this. I’m working on updating my kitchen to a more rustic look. I’m currently working on painting the cabinets, and once that’s done I’ll need to get decorating. My grandpa owned a grocery store for years, and I inherited a lot of old soda crates. I’ve wanted to find good ways to incorporate those for a while now and you gave me some great ideas and inspiration.
