How to Put Together a 15-Minute Beachy Centerpiece For Summer Decorating

The inspiration for this centerpiece actually came to me while browsing my favorite local thrift shop. I found a small canvas painting of the sea that turned out to be the perfect backdrop for my beachy centerpiece.

A 50 cents thrift store find. Nobody wanted it. No surprise there. Someone had painted a perfectly nice beach canvas and then they glued a paper circle with blobs of paint in the middle.

I removed that eye-sore in the middle (thank god for cheap glue), and found a lovely little beach painting. What a great score! It is perfect for when my coastal decorating vibes kick in.

Using a tray as the base, I started layering in a few easy pieces—two empty wine bottles (I found these great looking ones at the grocery store), a handful of faux sea grass, some collected sea shells, and a few thrifted sea stars. It all came together so quickly, but the end result felt thoughtful, styled, and full of character.

This is the kind of project that doesn’t need perfection. In fact, the more mixed and matched it is, the more it feels like it belongs in a cozy, lived-in coastal cottage.
