Hello everybody, how is life treating you? I hope all is well in your little corner of the world. In my little corner things have definitely taken a turn for the better. I spent the better part of my weekend covered in white paint specks and with modpodge sticky fingers, oh and I had fresh baked cherry cake too! Sounds like a great weekend, doesn’t it? Well it was.

Want to know what the white paint was all about?

This is what:

I have finally added a little something to our bedroom. You see, can you remember when I posted some of my inspiration pics for my bedroom? This photo was one of my “I hope I’ll find something like this” dreams:

Shabby Chic Bench

A lovely little shabby chic bench. My hopes for finding one of these benches wasn’t very big. But heck, a girl can dream.

Imagine my surprise when I walked into My Love sawing something (whatever) in the basement a few weeks ago. He was using a little sawhorse I had never seen before.

Here it is. Apparently My Love made it himself years ago in carpenter school, and he recently rediscovered it in his parents basement and took it home with him. He was using it, for what is was intended as a work tool. I thought that was just absolutely ridiculous! It had much more potential then that.

Look at this ‘beautifully’ roughed up top, just screaming ‘look at my beautiful shabbiness’.

So I ‘rescued’ the bench from further abuse by My Love and started to make her beautiful again. My kind of beautiful….

White paint, dark paint, hammer and screwdriver action, some more white paint, some sanding and she looked like this:

Look at the details My Love made in it. He really learned a craftsmanship back then (too bad he lost most of it).

And then of course the playing began.

Look how nice the little sawhorse bench looks next to my DIY reupholstered chair, isn’t it a match made in heaven?

You might have heard that this weekend was the big 4000 followers event over at FunkyJunk Interiors and MissMustard Seed. I really wanted to play. The challenge is to decorate, craft or makeover something in a true Donna or Marian style. To copy-cat their style.

I thought this little sawhorse might be perfect for a true FunkyJunk styling. After all it is a sawhorse and we all  know how fond Donna is of those. And it is homemade furniture, with all the right kind of rough edges, scuffed up and definitely not perfect.

But when I started to style it. Marian kept creeping up on me. There just had to be a little mirror underneath the candle, the books just screamed ‘add me in’ and when that little wire basket I found thrifting this summer happened to fit perfectly on the little shelf, I really felt, it had a MissMustardSeed touch.

This little corner of my bedroom is really coming together and I love that I now have a little spot to safely burn a candle and put some fresh flowers. I think my little sawhorse – bench is much better off up here in our bedroom than down under in the basement.

And I really tried to Funky it Up, or to give it a MissMustardSeed look, but I am afraid in the end it is just a Songbird look. And I guess that is exactly how I like it.

But you do have to check out Donna’s interpretation of a MissMustardSeed’s day (great video), and MissMustardSeed looks very convincing as Donna in her plaid jacket and her coffee (another very funny video)

Me? I guess I’ll just stick to being Songbird, who is equally grateful to both of these wonderful ladies for giving me so much inspiration.

Marianne, that is the sweetest little table! Thank goodness you rescued her and gave her a proper makeover, she is just lovely! Your vignette is so pretty, and I can see where this project is a collision of FJI, MMS, and Songbird, all blended together. Wonderful!

    Best,

It looks beautiful! Good things come to those who wait right? Who would of known you could of cut your wait in half if you would of dug around sooner! I am thinking of doing the challenge, but I am with you, I don't think I could do either look to copy cat, it really is our own look in the end, those two wonderful ladies give us great inspiration!

  24. Amanda@RelovedRubbish says:

I love all your shabby whites and your sawhorse bench looks lovely with the wire basket. Beautiful display!
