How To Decorate A Room For Fall In Just One Hour
I’m sharing my favorite easy DIY decor tricks for fall decor that you can complete in 1 hour or less. These quick decorating ideas are perfect for those who want to get their rooms ready for fall without spending hours decorating.

Yup, fall has arrived here, and there are lots of fun activities I like to enjoy during the season, like going on bike rides, hiking through the woods, sipping apple cider on a sunny terrace, or baking an apple pie. Whenever the weather is good, and the sun is shining, I want to be outdoors and enjoy the season to its fullest. But I know that here in Germany, there also will be plenty of dull, grey, and wet days that will keep me housebound. That’s why I love to make sure that I can enjoy the fall season in my home as well. One of the easiest ways to get into the spirit of fall is to add some simple and easy fall decorations to my home.
Fun and Easy Fall Decorating
Decorating your home quick and easily for a new season only takes a bit of planning and preparation. Choose a few spots in your home that will have the biggest impact, like your front door, the dining room table, and your mantel, and put together some simple fall decorations that will set the tone and mood for your whole house.
Really, I must sound like a broken record, but this is my kind of decorating. As much as I can love a big lush centerpiece, a full-out romantic fall mantel decoration, or a fall craft project, my heart really beats faster for simple and easy decorating.
Let’s be honest here. In our everyday, real, and busy lives, who has time to go all out on the decorations every season?
Well, not me. I suspect that if it wasn’t for this blog to light a fire under me every once in a while (for which I am very grateful, and it is why I love this blog so very much), I think I’d only do the simple kind of decorating you can do in 10 minutes or less.
The kind that enables me to decorate my entire living room and only takes an hour from start to finish never fails, and that is so easily transported into the next season.
That kind…..
There are lots of different types of fall decorations that I use to bring the season to life. Most of these items can be cheap fall decor, and if you shop the house, I am sure you will have most of them already hidden in your cupboards somewhere. If you go out and shop nature’s bounty, you will have lots of free decorations you can turn into easy DIY fall centerpieces.
5 Simple Fall Decorating Ideas (to pull off in an hour)
Combine Pumpkins and Candles
I lined up some mini white pumpkins on the ledge of my hutch and then added some votive mini lights. Really we are talking five minutes here, and it already looked good.
I have a growing addiction to washi tape. So I spent another five minutes playing with my new favorite tape and dressed up those little votive candles.

Can you imagine anything cuter and easier than this? I can’t. Lighting a new batch of candles each evening is the highlight of my day. It sets the mood for a cozy fall night perfectly.

So we are 10 minutes into our 1 hour-long fall decorating spree here.

Fall Tray Decor Ideas
Create a pretty tray, and you’ll have a quick centerpiece for your fall table in minutes.
I love this way of creating simple fall centerpieces. No special skills are needed, and it is so easy to make it look good. This is really the best way to make yourself some cheap, easy fall table decorations. You can use any tray you have (a crate or platter would work too), and any collection of fall accessories and decorations will work.
Fall tray decor is just the easiest to do. Nature gives you plenty of decorations that look great together on a tray or platter. You can use gourds, Indian corn, cinnamon sticks, fall leaves, moss, pumpkins, acorns, and pinecones. The possibilities are endless, and it will look so good.

The one trick to make this easy DIY fall decoration work is to make sure that you fill that tray to abundance. It is much more difficult to make a pretty arrangement if you leave lots of room, but when you really fill it up, and I mean, really fill it up with items that sort of match because they go together for the season and/or in the color scheme it almost always instantly looks good. Trust me on this, I have done it so many times, and it never fails to look good.

Seriously! If you got a little stash of fall fluff, this is another five minutes. Hunt down your fall decorations and just drop them on a pretty tray or in a basket. Add a focal point like a candle holder or lantern, and it is done. To make it look extra special, you can quickly tie a bit of burlap ribbon around a bottle (if you don’t have burlap ribbon, then a bit of scrap fabric will do just fine too.
For fall accessories, I like to use wine corks, pine cones, nuts, faux mini pumpkins, faux antlers, decorative balls, rustic twine, and any other loose stuff in the right colors.
Okay, five minutes for the dumping of stuff onto a tray and five more minutes to rearrange it so there are no obvious gaps.
We have used up another 10 minutes.

Fill a Vase for Fall
If you put a collection of vases together, you have an instant display that draws attention. Anything in the glass gets an instant glam up. Especially if that glass is a pretty vase or a cloche or bell jar.
I love decorating with cloches all year. But if you don’t have a cloche, don’t worry. You can use glass vases, hurricanes, lanterns, or a glass dish to get the same effect.

Take a bell jar or a cloche and look for something pretty to put underneath. The beauty of decorating with cloches is that anything that goes into the cloche looks instantly glamorous. A simple pumpkin or some feathers become magical the moment you put them under the glass. You could even add some vase fillers inside too.

This is a nice and easy way of making a fall centerpiece: fill glass vases with pretty fall glass fillers in any color that suits your living room color palette, and you have custom-made fall decor.
Fall glass filler ideas that are easy to find are mini pumpkins, wine corks, various nuts, pine cones, acorns, or chestnuts. More Autumn vase filler ideas include dried leaves, decorative feather balls or seed pods.
Okay, the putting-things-under-the-cloche or in the vase will take another five minutes, But you may have to clean your glass first before using it, so let’s say this one takes 10 minutes too.

How to Make a Fall Wreath Fast
Wreaths are for indoors too. Fall wreaths can be so easy. With a base like a grapevine or a twig wreath, you are almost instantly ready.
The vines and branches of those wreath bases are already nice and go well with fall seasonal colors. Both can be personalized and improved by simply pushing flowers, faux leaves, faux branches, or feathers into the wreath.
Making a fall wreath like that really is simple fall decor with the biggest impact. See how I made a twig wreath for free and how I decorated it through the seasons here. I used a grapevine wreath as the base for my super easy DIY hops wreath.
An autumn wreath for your front door, to hang over the fireplace, or as a focal point in your fall entryway decor is such a smart way to add a lot of seasonal decor vibe in one big swoop.

If you don’t happen to have a grapevine or twig wreath lying around, you could also simply hang a branch of mini pine cones over a hook.
Hanging or displaying branches with berries or pine cones can be done anywhere. Keep an eye out on your next nature walk for a pretty branch to drape or hang somewhere, and you’ll have a super quick, easy, and cheap bit of fall decor.
Quick Fall Centerpieces
No living room decorating would be complete without a little decorative display on a coffee table, dining room table, or on a side table.
Not every decorative vignette you create needs to be complicated, overflowing with items, or busy. Using just a few items like vases and lanterns and pairing them with little things like a couple of flowers, some scattered pinecones, or a mini pumpkin or two can be all it takes. Uncomplicated fall decor, just the way I like it.

Sometimes creating a little fall decor can be as easy as using a lantern and adding some flowers or pinecones. A grouping of pretty glass apothecary jars filled with pinecones and wine corks works beautifully as well. Or arrange and layer items in the same color scheme for a pretty laid-back fall vignette.

Of course, I am partial to using white in my decor. So I love white fall decor, and I always reach for my faux white pumpkins. I have miniature pumpkins from the dollar store that I painted white, and I have a set of felt pumpkins that I love the use in a pumpkin centerpiece. I invested in these white pumpkins once, and they make a reappearance every year. Fall home accessories like that, that you really love, are a good investment because they never really go out of style (I predict pumpkins will stay a staple in autumn home decor for years to come)
A nice collection of vintage glassware can also be the starting point for a really quick fall display. Simply add some fresh flowers and greenery, scatter a pine cone or two, and you’ll be done. If you don’t have vintage glassware, then simply use some mason jars in various sizes. That will work just fine too.
You can use real flowers and greenery in your vases, but faux fall foliage will look great too. In the little fall vignette above, I used branches with mini pinecones that I found in the woods. Go real or go faux, or combine both. As long as you are happy with it, everything is allowed in decorating and styling.
