Homemade Red and White Christmas Decorations – A Holiday Home Tour
Looking for inspiration for homemade red and white Christmas decorations that are budget-friendly, cozy, and totally handmade? Well, you’ve come to the right place.
I have always loved red and white. It’s classic, cheerful, and somehow manages to feel both farmhouse cozy and Scandinavian crisp at the same time. For the past two years, I’ve embraced a red and white Christmas theme in my home, and today, I’m inviting you on a full holiday home tour.

Homemade Red and White Christmas Decorations
Now, a little warning. I don’t do luxury, over-the-top, perfectly staged Christmas. Nope. My homemade Christmas decorations in red and white are simple, easy, and handmade. I upcycle thrift store finds, raid my backyard for natural touches, and dig through craft room treasures for quick little projects. If you love a truly handmade, personal, and joyful Christmas, then step right in — it’s tour time.

Homemade Red and White Christmas Mantel Ideas
Let’s start with the living room. For many, the fireplace is the heart of the space. For me? I don’t have one. But that doesn’t stop a girl from creating a mantel vibe.
In our living room corner sits a built-in radiator with a shelf. It’s become my makeshift mantel, and trust me, it works beautifully for red and white cozy Christmas ideas.
Year One: Sparkle and Shine on the Mantel
The first mantel was sparkly and festive.

I gathered glass vases, apothecary jars, and candle holders, filled them with fairy lights, faux snow, and red ornaments, then draped a bit of red-and-silver dollar-store garland around.

I stepped back. Looked. Smiled. Happy.
It was easy. Simple. And it made the room feel like Christmas without breaking the bank.
Year Two: Rustic and Handmade Mantel Decor
This year, I went more rustic.

A white-painted vintage French mirror serves as the focal point. I layered in fresh evergreen branches and a little mistletoe.

In a vintage gravy bowl, I planted hyacinth bulbs that will bloom right at Christmas.

To add a bit of extra flair to the mantel I created a homemade paper garland. Red and white craft paper circles, sewn together on the machine, hanging from the mirror. Fun. Easy. Totally charming.

Oh, and in the corner, my pinecone garland made its second debut. It started as table decor quite splendidly.
But repurposed beautifully on the mantel for that extra bit of rustic flair.

Red and White Christmas Centerpiece Idea
For our dining table in the living room I made a super quick and easy centerpiece. Years ago I painted some small terracotta pots white and I have been using them ever since for just about every season. This time they came out for a little Christmas decorating.

I filled them with sand to safely hold little candles, then topped with fresh moss and dollar-store mushroom decorations. As it where, they fit perfectly in a little wire basket from the thrift store.
I think it is the repetition of several little decorated pots that turns this simple idea into such a cozy and easy centerpiece.
My Handmade Red and White Christmas Tree

Now, the tree.

I started decorating with my DIY paper garland: hundreds of punched circles sewn into a long, playful strand. It fills the tree instantly and adds a cheerful red-and-white rhythm.

Then came the felt puppet ornaments — little Scandinavian-inspired friends made from felt scraps, pipe cleaners, wooden beads, and embroidery thread. Fun, whimsical, and perfect for a cozy night of crafting.

I also added vintage doily ornaments from old crochet blankets and table runners. Easy, simple, and nostalgic. This really was one of my easiest and simplest Christmas crafts I ever did, and love these little doily ornaments to bits.
For under the tree I made a lovely little rustic tree skirt. From a cheap moving blanket I sew a circle and stitched ribbon and felt stars.

Oh, and let’s not forget about the presents under the tree.

Of course they had red and white gift wrapping made with kitchen cupboard finds and some leftovers from my crafting spree.
A Red and White Christmas Kitchen
Onward to the kitchen — my small, hardworking holiday space.

I decorated the open shelving with a garland of tiny fabric ornaments: skates, birds, stars, hearts, and flower yoyos, sewn from scraps and embroidery thread.

Some red-and-white transferware, handmade jar labels, and a vintage egg basket filled with ornaments completed the cozy look.
Easy Red and White Fabric Scrap Wreath
Also in the kitchen: a DIY fabric scrap wreath.

This is perfect for crafting with (grand)kids. Tear old fabric into strips, tie them to a metal ring, and voilà! Optional fairy lights make it glow with that extra bit of Christmas magic.
Red and White Christmas Bedroom
Christmas being such a busy season, makes my yearn for piece and quite and a little me time often. Which is why I love to give my bedroom, a little special attention too.

A couple of years ago I made a reclaimed wood headboard for our bed, and it has been the rustic backdrop for my bedroom decorating ever since. One year I decorated my headboard with fairy lights and some handcrafted stockings.

The next year I hung a different set of fairy lights on the headboard, added some rustic big stars and used red and white bedding to set the theme.

On my nightstand I made a little decorative vignette with a white lantern and a red poinsettia.

For a super easy and simple centerpiece on a side table I filled a vintage red coke crate with little trinkets, ornaments, evergreen twigs and some candle light. Too cute and couldn’t be more easy.
Oh, and those stockings?

They made a return too.
They are made from dollar store kitchen towels. They look nice, don’t they?
Red and White Christmas Outdoor Decor
For the last part of this tour I am taking you inside. On our patio I always add a little something to the garden table. And one year I also decorated a little shelving that is hanging on my garden wall.

You’ll recognize that little hand sewn garland I previously showed you hanging in my kitchen. The next year it wound up in my garden, and looked good hanging from these garden shelves.
